Life After Death: What Happens When We Die?

We are all aware of our mortality. Like a shadow, it reminds us that eventually we’re going to face it. But what happens after that moment comes for us? Where do we go? Who or what do we become? Thanks to the accounts described by near death experiencers, and the work of Raymond Moody, and Michael Newton whose Life Between Lives regressions are continuously being published through The Newton Institute, we are told that death is actually a very beautiful and liberating experience.

The most common trajectory we as Soul’s experience after passing is that even before the actual moment of death, the Souls consciousness has already begun to withdraw from the physical body. This comes as a great relief to those who worry their loved ones endured horrific pain just before they died. Yet we are told this is not the case. The Soul, with its multidimensional nature, has already begun to return to the spirit world where it may experience beautiful landscapes, see loved ones and even pets, and are overwhelmed with profound love and a sense of belonging.

Spiritual guides, or beings described as fragments of light able to take the appearance of Jesus or Buddha depending on the beliefs held by the deceased prior to passing, await the newly returning Soul ready to assist them. When near death experiencers and those who have undergone LBL’s describe these guides, it is with the utmost respect. These guides are full of wisdom; have already completed their incarnations long ago and are uniquely connected to that Soul having worked with them for hundreds, if not thousands of incarnations.

These guides are integral to what is referred to as ‘the life review.’ This is a time where the Soul views the incarnation just completed and can experience it from different perspectives. We become aware of all the ways our lives could have unfolded. Probable realities are a consistent component discussed by NDE and in LBL accounts. Life, we are told is not one set path, but a field of many probabilities available to us. Not only are we able to realize all those probable realities during this life review, but we are also able to recreate memories, rejoice in our greatest moments, and explore times when we could have made better choices. We are also able to experience how our actions affected others, allowing for further spiritual growth.

Because Souls are no longer bound to the limitations of the physical body, speech is not used to communicate, but rather telepathy, or thought, is how communication takes place. By simply thinking of someone, a Soul can connect to them projecting thoughts, images, and even emotions, which are translated instantaneously.

The transition from the physical to the ethereal is always a subjective one. How a person dies or how old they were when they died makes little difference as age on earth has nothing to do with the Souls development in the spirit world. It is the Souls level of consciousness gained through its incarnational experiences that largely determines what it encounters directly after passing, and where it wishes to go after it has returned.

Each Soul eventually remembers that it is eternal, and that earth was never home but rather an experience it wanted to have. New lives are planned, often with other Souls whom we have a strong affinity with, and the process of translating mental energy into physical energy for the purpose of growth, begins all over again. So just remember, every face you pass, is a Soul whose made the conscious choice to undertake a new physical life which is full of meaning and purpose, no matter how it may appear to others on the surface.
